“Eleven Beautiful Men” :


In the year 2000 I was commissioned by the Notting Hill Arts Club in London to produce a series of football portraits based on the fashion of football in the 1970’s. The exhibition was set to coincide with the “Euro 2000”. The chosen players, a dream team of eleven, were some of the virtuoso heroes of the era. My commissioner, David McHugh, chose the “team” and the execution of the project was left to me. I sourced the images, reworked them, then blew them up to larger than life portraits in the style of football cards, and finally printed them on to canvas. All elements of football imagery were removed, as the focus was on the style of the players.
